Lately? Praying the Psalms as the lyrics Christ Jesus sang? Wow, it has brought deepest comfort as I suffer. I’m so thankful our Lord gave us the Psalms!

I'm so glad that praying and singing the Psalms has helped you - as it has me.

Just recently, I have been asking the Lord, "Why?" more often. I've been praying through Psalm 77 for the past few days - I'm halfway through the six days on my schedule of praying this psalm. What is standing out to me this time through the psalm is 1) the "numbness" Asaph was feeling as he witnessed the trouble he had encountered (although he was staying up at night, he couldn't find the words to pray - verse 4); 2) the regret he felt that his life was seemingly not what it had been before (verses 5-6); and, his choice to remember the character of God and the mighty deeds he had done on his behalf in the past (verses 10-15).

The psalm ends with an account of the Exodus from Israel (in verses 16-20) - one of those mighty deeds Asaph remembers.

I haven't gotten there yet in my current schedule (I will in a couple of days), but in past years, I remember finding the last two verses of the psalm quite poignant: "Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron."

Even when it is supremely frightening for us, His way and His path is through the trouble. Even though His footprints are unseen, He is leading us.

Be encouraged today that even though you might not see His footprints, He is leading you!

Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of the Psalms has been our Lord’s turning me around to truths of who He is, His immutable character, and His work as a result. Lately, I’ve been reading them as words Jesus sang in His earthly life too.

Somehow, every emotion expressed within and about the pains of this fallen world, then become my own turnarounds…to Christ Himself. What a wonder that He’s given us His own songbook to use! Thanking God for your thoughts and all you’re sharing here!
